Som Pradosh Fast Ritual
Som Pradosh fast ritual starts from the Gaudhuli time when people keep a complete fast without water for the entire day. The step-by-step rituals are as follows:
- Start your day with cleaning and making special prasad from wheat and ghee in your own house.
- Keep the idols of Shiva and Parvati and offer Jalabhishekam.
- Offer red flowers and light diyas in front of the idols.
- Read the Som Pradosh Katha of the poor widow sitting in front of the idol after lighting dia and dhoop.
- Chant the Som Pradosh vrath mantra like Om Namah Shivaya or Mahamrityanjay mantra.
- Visit a nearby Shiv Temple and offer coconut water, sugar, peanuts, etc, to the Shivaling.
- Offer your prayers and wishes to Lord Shiva and recite the Mahamrityanjay Mantra 108 times on this day.
